This song is about a recurring series of 6 or 7 nightmares I had when I was a kid that involved birds which inexplicably wanted to bite my ears. In some dreams, they would come out of the side reading lights which were found in the back seats of 70's era automobiles. Other times, my wooden bedposts would morph into these winged ear-chompers. The birds' heads were a darkly stained brown color just like my bed posts. I use to put hats and puppets over them to keep them from coming out at night. Unfortunately, I had 2 twin beds in my room. This meant eight birdies were hungry for my ears every night.
lyrics
The birdies are here
The birdies are here
The birdies that bite the ears
leave on the closet light
pull those covers up high
The birdies are here
The birdies are here
The birdies that bite the ears
leave on the closet light
pull those covers up high
cover those bedposts tight
this is no vampire in your night light
avians with teeth
will fly tonight
The birdies are here
The birdies are here
The birdies that bite the ears
The birdies are here
The birdies are here
The birdies that bite your ears
